# Matte or glossy business cards — which is better?

Beginner

## Quick answer

Matte lamination gives a lower-gloss appearance; glossy lamination gives a reflective finish that can change the apparent colour and contrast. Fingerprints, scratching and feel depend on the actual film, so neither finish should be chosen from a universal premium or durability label. Compare samples of your design on the proposed paper and film.

## More detail

## Start with how the card will be used

If someone will write an appointment time, price or note on the card, mention that before printing. The word “matte” alone does not confirm that your pen will write on the finished surface. Test your intended pen on a finished sample; discuss an uncoated writing area or another paper if needed.

## Check reflection and readability

Compare the same artwork in matte and gloss under the lighting where the card will be used. Tilt each sample and check the telephone number, small text and QR code. Make this comparison at the final size: an enlarged screen proof cannot replace it.

## Compare colour and handling

For photographs, dark backgrounds or important brand colours, compare samples printed on the same paper. Fingerprints and scratches depend on the actual film and handling; matte and gloss are appearance choices, not durability grades.

## Prepare a useful request

Send both sides of the artwork, the quantity and preferred paper. Mention handwriting, QR codes, foil or other finishing. Confirm sample and film availability before ordering. [Explore paper business-card options](https://www.craftarea.ge/en/services/business-cards/premium-paper).
