Waterproof Stickers
Short answer
Waterproof stickers are printed on self-adhesive vinyl film and covered with protective lamination. Such a sticker withstands rain, humidity, washing and refrigerator condensation. Paper stickers do not work in these conditions — they soak through and the adhesive loses its grip.
'Waterproof' means two different things in printing: a material that does not soak, and a print that does not wash off. Both are needed — vinyl blocks water, but unprotected ink on the surface can still be damaged by abrasion or cleaning products. A genuinely waterproof sticker therefore has two components: vinyl and protective lamination. This page covers which combination each situation needs, and where limits still apply.

Where paper stickers fail
A self-adhesive paper sticker fails in three stages on contact with water: first the paper soaks and swells, then the ink runs, and finally the adhesive loses grip and the sticker falls off. That process takes only minutes with direct water and a few days in high humidity. So wherever water, steam or condensation is expected — kitchens, bathrooms, refrigerators, outdoors, drink bottles — paper is simply the wrong material, however well it is printed.

Two components: material and protection
Vinyl blocks water — that is the first component. But the print sits on the vinyl surface, and if it is unprotected, cleaning products, brushes or simply frequent handling can wear it away over time. Protective lamination seals that layer and makes the sticker genuinely washable. So for wet environments we always propose vinyl plus lamination — vinyl alone is sufficient only when nobody touches the sticker and it meets nothing but humidity.

Special cases: freezers and hot water
Two situations sit outside standard waterproofing and must be agreed separately. First, fridges and freezers: at low temperatures standard adhesive stiffens and loses elasticity, so the sticker lifts, especially if the surface was cold or damp at application. This calls for a special low-temperature adhesive. Second, dishwashers and hot water: here the combination of temperature, chemicals and pressure is very aggressive for a standard sticker. If your product will face those conditions, tell us before ordering and we will select the material accordingly.
