Surface coatings, shape and ink adhesion need assessment; some materials require a primer or other preparation. White ink, varnish and texture effects depend on the available system. Water, scratch and outdoor performance belong to the actual ink-and-material combination, not to a universal superiority claim over solvent printing. For artwork preparation, separate the colour image from any proposed white or varnish layer. On a transparent or coloured object, ask which areas should remain transparent and which need an opaque base. These choices should be visible on the approved layout. A sample should answer a named question: does the ink adhere to this coating, is the smallest text readable, or does the chosen texture suit the object? Supplying a sample item is useful only when its material and coating represent the actual production batch. Confirm the test and acceptance criteria with the producer.
