Matte business cards use a lower-gloss surface for a different appearance from a reflective card. Compare the actual laminate or coating on your paper, especially over dark backgrounds and fine type. A matte finish and an uncoated paper are different specifications, and neither automatically guarantees a writable or fingerprint-free surface.

What to check before approval

• Identify whether the desired result is matte laminate, coating or uncoated stock.
• Review dark solids for handling marks on the proposed finish.
• Test handwriting where the card needs an appointment or note field.

A matte face and a writable reverse are separate requirements. Mark where notes, an appointment time or a signature will be added, and identify the pen that staff use. Ask for that area to be evaluated with the chosen stock and finish; a description such as matte or soft-touch does not establish writing performance.

Keep foil or spot-gloss areas on separate artwork layers and show which side receives each treatment. Review the QR code at its finished size after the finishing choice, with sufficient clear space around it.
